What actually happened in Google Market

June 21st, 2010

As you all probably know, Mabilo Ringtones is not available in the market anymore. With a bit over 4 million downloads, Google decided to suspend our application due to DMCA complaint. Attempts to reason with copyright holders and comply with Google market’s policies were simply IGNORED. You would think that being in the top 10 of most popular apps in the market, somebody would try and contact you about an issue like this, but that wasn’t the case! We never got a chance to counter DMCA, we were never warned or notified, we were simply kicked out from Google market in seconds!

While trying to contact Google about the issues, we have had to make some adjustments to our application. Mabilo Sounds offers free, non-copy protected song clips, beats and sounds which is available in Google Market as of this moment. However, for those of us who need full access to latest and hottest ringtones, get the full version of the app on our website at http://www.mabilo.com/app/

New stable release

December 1st, 2009

Mabilo Ringtones is now stable with 3.5.2 version for android. We had a few issues while updating yesterday but all of that is behind now. Enjoy and tell your friends!

3.4 version is out

November 20th, 2009

Hi everyone.

We wanted to clarify that the latest version of our Ringtones app, which is 3.4, deals with a few issues Droid users had when setting ringtones to contacts. There are also reports of the app crashing and that has something to do with too many people browsing the app at the same time. We suggest using the app sometime in the morning, afternoon or at night.

Of course, we are always working on upgrading our hardware and servers, so next week, we should be able to handle all the traffic we get. Stay tuned for 3.5 and faster download speeds next week.

There are also questions if our app is really free or not. We’ll say it again, our application is free, and downloading ringtones withing our app is absolutely free as well. This means you will not get charged for any service that Mabilo offers. However, we do display advertisements and that is how we are able to sustain our business and cover server fees. If you click on an advertisement and explicitly subscribe to some 3rd party website/service, you can’t blame us.

With that said, thanks for using our apps, stay tuned for more updates!

We are 1 year old.

October 23rd, 2009

Exactly a year ago, T-Mobile released their first android phone G1, which led our founders think of a great project called Tunes for Android. What started with a handful of wallpapers turned into a huge community of android users with thousands upon thousands of content pieces. It was later renamed to Mabilo Ringtones. The idea was good and appealed to many people. We went through crashing servers, bandwidth problems and data loss but stuck with the idea and it worked out very well. Today we serve over half a million people every month and are very thankful for your help and feedback. Without you, we would never have so much content or features to offer. Thanks to everyone who supported us throughout this year, and happy Halloween!

No it will not happen, and yes we have a video

October 1st, 2009

Some of android users are asking us to change the app icon (evil face). I am sorry to say this but Mabilo has no intentions of rebranding itself with any other icon or illustration any time soon. So, no, it will not happen.

In other news, we released 3.1.4 with rating fix. We also added over 100,000 ringtones to the database. Enjoy. Oh, and now we have a how-to video below ;)

Mabilo Ringtones on Android

September 9th, 2009

Many of you downloaded our android application couple days ago. We had overwhelming response which crashed the servers and made everything very very slow. Well, since then we worked very hard on improving speed and upgrading our hardware. We also added some cool fetures to the app itself. Here are the changes from 3.0 to the current 3.0.2 version:

  1. Improved application and download speed 300%
  2. Downloading in background. You can browse the app while it downloads ringtones to your account.
  3. Downloaded ringtones are now playing directly from your sdcard (big speed improvement).
  4. Streaming ringtones can now be canceled (by pressing back button) to prevent forceclosing if streaming timesout.
  5. You can now delete ringtones from your account (and sdcard) by longpressing on ringtone row in your account.

Also some UI improvements:

  1. Added icons to tabs in category view
  2. Changed home page icons for a cleaner look

With that said, enjoy the new, improved application, and your feedback is always appreciated.
